Current pre-med / medical school students and applicants, PLEASE help me?
Which school would be better as pre-med: Rutgers or U Michigan?
——————————————————————————–
Michigan for me has only two problems: distance and money. I'm in NJ so rutgers is costing about 12K for me vs 43K for U Michigan.
I still have a chance to choose because I got off waitlist for Michigan.
If I want to apply to medical school through the same major (biomedical engineering), would it be worth it for me to go the extra mile(s) and go to U michigan?
Someone please reply I desperately need outside opinions as I only have a few days to decide. I REALLY NEED TO KNOW whether its worth 30k extra to go to a much better college (Michigan) If I am looking to apply to medical school.
Michigan's undergrad is far more respectable than Rutgers. But if you think you would earn higher marks at Rutgers then consider spending a semester or two there. The nice thing about being accepted to one school and going to another is that if you decide you don't like where you are, you've already got one foot in the door somewhere else.
Your education is an investment. If you're serious, make that investment!
Applying to medical school with MBA?
Rutgers has a program for Engineering students, that within five years I can get BS in Biomedical Engineering and a MBA.Will this impress medical schools if I have a good MCAT socre and gpa?
probably not. An MBA without work experience is pretty worthless.
Do I have what it takes to major in computer science/engineering?
I really like math and science. I would like to major in either one of these two fields.
Currently Senior in High School
GPA 3.6
Math Courses: Int Alg/geo 1- A, Int Alg/geo 2- -A, Algebra II-A, Pre-Cal MP1 as of now A.
Scence- Phisical Science- A-, Biology- A-, Biology II- B+, Chemistry- as of now A- (i find the math in the course understandable)
English- fours years of college level english, genre-B/american-A/british-B+/ and world lit- B
History- get all A in my history classes except in 10th grade i took an AP us course and got B- average.
I don't know why I have such a hard time with SAT but my scores are: Math- 520, Verbal 520, Writing 530.
I try very hard in all of my classes and also I have taken computer programming elective courses: one in Visual Basic and currently one in Java. I have applied to Rutgers University in New Jersey and New Jersey Insitute of Technology. i have two extra currcular activites which i attend.
Thank You for your comments.
The programs you have mentioned are really rigorous. If you have an intuitive sense when programming computers and observe that you are better than your classmates, then that would be a good field for you.
Englineering is even more demanding than computer science. If you really delight in mathematics, this would be a good field.
You are to be complimented on your grades and I wish the best for you. You will actually have an easier life if you take computer science or mathematics with the idea of going on for a doctorate to teach it. Computer programmers have a tendency to burn out.
IS RUTGERS A LEGIT POSSIBILITY FOR Me?
But this is gonna be short and sweet. I already applied to Rutgers sending out everything I needed to. So now, Im just waiting. Basically, my stats are as follows:
Applied for Mech Engineering.
I am Instate BTW.
GPA=3.31
Rank=111 outta 308 (36% mark)
SAT=1290 (710M, 580V), 1860 with Writing (570)
My 11th grade has AP Physics (B-), AP Calc AB (B), AP Chem (B-). Got 4 on AP Physics and 4 on AP Calc and 3 on AP Chem.
I am Hispanic/Chicano which is what I marked on my application. I basically applied mad early as everyone instructed me to. So basically, as there is no more turning back, what can I expect.
ALSO, I APPLIED TO THESE SCHOOLS ALL FOR MECH ENGINEERING:
Purdue University-West Lafayette
University of Colorado-Boulder
Rochester Institute of Technology
University of Pittsburgh
Rutgers-NB (Of course…)
Resnseelear Polytechnic Institute
Penn State-University Park
Your possiblity of getting into each of these schools…
Rutgers: very good
U of CO: very good
RIT: good
U of Pittsburgh: very good
RPI: good
Penn State – good
You've taken many AP's and you had a reasonable score on your SAT's. The only thing slowing you down is your GPA and class rank – but the rest of it kind of makes up for that.
Besides, you're a minority. That means as long as you fulfill basic requirements, you're in.
As an undergrad going into aerospace engineering, which of these 7 colleges would be the best to attend?
SUNY Buffalo, Rutgers, Penn State, RPI, Syracuse, WPI, BU.
I’m not going to get into MIT or EMbry-Riddle, so are these some good schools for that major in the northeast? Which has the best program?
I’d go with SUNY Buffalo, Rutgers or RPI. I was a mechanical at SUNY Buffalo and apart from a semester or so of extra classes for the aeros (and different electives), the curriculum for the 2 majors are the same and was very good. You also have undergraduate research projects available and wind tunnels for use at SUNY Buffalo. Not sure about the other 2 for that aspect. Rutgers should be good as well and RPI is great for technical sciences but is a little on the pricey side.
