why Civil Engineering Schools don't teach techical drawings anymore?

it used to be hand drawings, but nowadays they had replace it with CAD programs instead.

I don't understand? you want to do hand drawings? Im at work right now working with CAD, and trust me its much better then doing it by hand.

I guess they don't teach hand anymore because no one uses it anymore. When i did my Design Drafting program we had 2 Classes of hand drawings and it wasn't very fun!!

All the engineers that go through Penn State have to take a hand drawing course.

The real answer is that business don't use hand drafting anymore. Computers and software had become fairly cheap so every engineer can have access to CAD or a similar drafting program.

While manual skills are important — and, since junior high industrial arts 20-something years ago, I've probably had a solid year's instruction in pencil-and-scale-and triangle drafting, plus I have crafted many, many, many, many plans for various projects I have planned, and sometimes built. So it's really not true to say they "don't teach" it.

I use AutoCAD and QCad, a simpler 2D CAD program. CAD software is a powerful and flexible idea; CAD drawings are more useful than hard copy plans. For example, you can choose to make prints of any fraction of the total plan, which makes a single CAD plan equivalent to an entire cabinet of paper plans. It can also be used to make 3D models for product visualization or architectural rendering purposes. Finally, programs like Autodesk Building Systems are tremendously productive at adding HVAC, electrical, plumbing or other miscellaneous layers of the building design on top of the architectural skeleton. CAD plans enormously reduce duplication of effort.

we don't draw manually because it takes time especially when there are revisions involved even draftsmen use CAD, like for example, you finished a 20 page floor plan, well and good, but suddenly your boss said you have to remove all the bathrooms on each floor and replace them with stock rooms, what will you do? draw it again manually? not to mention your boss needs it in about an hour hehe, CAD programs allows you to cut and paste just like any word processor, of course you have to know the basics of drawing
